The Mohau Centre is part of the Kalafong Hospital in the township of Atteridgeville. It began as a hospice for children dying from AIDS and cancer. The HIV/AIDS pandemic grew, and they decided to focus solely on children with HIV/AIDS.In time, with the help of proper nutrition and antiretrovirals, the children began to be much healthier and live much longer, and so (while a hospice wing still exists) the Mohau centre is now a home for children infected or affected by HIV/AIDS. Not all the children are complete orphans - several still have a parent living who is unable to care for them.
